ROAD TRIPS!
Nothing is better than leaving the house, work & the blah-ness of everyday life to something a little newer and more exciting. I wish I could say I was visiting Europe or going to Disneyland, just off for a short trip this time! Valentine's Day parties, BYU Basketball games, shopping, eating, "The Vow", and visiting my Grandparents & old roommates are just some of the things on the list. I'm pretty excited!

Don't you wish this would happen the next time you went on vacation? You know, when you run into 'The One' while out-and-about in a new city. The probability of this happening to me=.001% Maybe one day... :)

Mary's Nipple Winter 2011

I'm a child of winter. Right when I think I can't learn to love this sport anymore, I find something new to try and my love grows more...if that's even possible :) I learned to ski at 3 years of age when my Dad would take me up to the ski hill on week nights and teach me how to 'french fry' and 'pizza'. I've been through everything from ski schools, private lessons, lots of crashing and feeling like I had frost bite on every inch of my body, to learning how to ski off cliffs, ski in chest deep powder{a personal favorite} and hiking in the back-country. Thanks to my Mom and Dad who had the ambition to teach their own great love for skiing to their young children- I'm sure it wasn't an easy task. And thanks to my new and old friends who love skiing just as much as I do! It wouldn't be quite as fun if you weren't there to push my comfort zones, teach me tricks, and ski every bluebird, icy, foggy and powder day of the season! I'm excited for more wonderful memories on the ski hill.

Here's to hoping all my kids will love sking as much as I do.

Ahh... A new year has finally arrived and with it came new resolutions. This year I've decided to carry some of my 2011 resolutions into 2012, you know, like the cliche goals of going to the gym, being nicer, eating more healthy etc. But a new resolution that's changed my life for the better already is the 'Recognizing God's Hand in our Daily Blessings' journal. I've never been one to ponder on the daily happenings of my life, but through this journal, I've come to realize that my Heavenly Father is always there for me. Always. He is constantly helping me, even with the smallest things. I love it and I am grateful I started this journal already.
Here's to a great 2012 filled with the hand of God directing our lives and a healthier living style. :)

Time flies when you're having fun, or working, or going to school...or maybe all three. This blog definitely gets left behind when life is full of adventures.

Some happenings:

| Only 3 semesters of school left! Then what? Well, I don't know either...
| Best roommates ever. Seriously, I've never had so much fun! {or gotten into so much trouble}
| Lots of late nights working on homework in consequence of having too much fun
| Book Arts. {more on these creations later}
| Dreaming of winter, sub-zero weather, and skiing...
| Swimming, camping, hiking, berry picking, bonfires and all the fun that summer brings
| Finally learning how to drive the motorbike. Look who surprised everyone :)
| Telling people all semester I'm from The Hamptons. Yes, Some still believe it
| Spending too much money on Jcrew clothing. But who can help themselves? They are a work of art!
| Daydreaming of where the next step in life will take me
| Finally coming to the conclusion that change is good. Without it I would never become better
| Cutting all my hair off and then dying it auburn.

Can you believe it's January already? Where does the time go? Most of my time was spent in the printmaking lab and standing in line at Alphagraphics last semester. Too many art classes at once, I'm afraid. I am determined to get this blog back on track. . but, not tonight :) Hope your new years was very enjoyable!

Below: Proof that I actually did something last semester. Although, it's nothing spectacular- Printmaking was much more enjoyable than typography.

Quirky was on of my typography projects later turned and printed into logos (Quirky bikes), business cards, and envelops.

I had everything under control last Thursday, or so I thought. Then I learned that long, tiring days lead to some pretty funny experiences. You know, the kind of experiences that you can only laugh at or maybe cry. I believe in laughing at yourself.

When my young, naive piano students arrive at my home for a torturous half-hour of piano lessons it's 6:30 a.m. We both are tired before we even begin lessons. As I sit listening, seconds creep by as I ask them to repeat the same two measures multiple times. “Wrong notes", I say. "Let's try that again.” Finally, the longest part of the morning ends. Lessons are over and I head for my 7:45 a.m. scripture class. I am exhausted before the day begins. I sit through the bland scripture class trying to keep my heavy eyelids from going back to where they should be- closed. I can do it I tell myself.

Next, aerobics - 10:00 a.m. I'm a walking zombie by now. Stress of school, work, and my to-do list weigh heavily on my mind. So consequently, I’m not paying too much attention as I dress for an athletic class. I put on the required gym wear, shove my street clothes and book bags back into a my gym locker and try to shake the grogginess out of my head. As I head for class and enter ready to shake it up, I realize my gorgeous, navy blue gym shorts are most obviously on backwards. They're a bit uncomfortable, too.

After aerobics, I went back and forth between work and other school classes. By now, my brain is on auto-pilot and I'm just trying to get through the day. My last class of the day is Costume Design. Our assignment was to find a beautiful costume from the costume shop and describe the complete dress of the era. I went into the costume closet and picked out a beautiful Elizabethan style dress. It was a fashionable purple and gold French gown, with a low square neckline, a tight-fitting bodice, and a full skirt gathered at the waist. Beautiful embroidered flower sequins covered most of the long dress that hung to the floor. As my turn approached to present the information about the costume, I started to get nervous. I had butterflies in my stomach and I was tired. A bad combination. I stepped up to the front of the class and began telling my twenty classmates about this beautiful costume. I told the class where the costumes came from and about its accessories. When I got to the part about the year this dress had been worn, I told the class the wrong year. I was off by about six years. The teacher stopped me and said, “Back up a little.” So I picked up my feet and took three steps backwards. The class room erupted in laughter. My face turned several shades of red, even purple. I was so tired I took her suggestion a little too literally. I didn't know what to do with myself. I had lost all train of thought. I laughed at the ridiculous mistake I had made, finished my thoughts and sat down. I believe in laughing at yourself.

That day didn't get any better. I wished someone a 'Happy Birthday' when it really wasn't, and even got into someone else's car and screamed, “Someone stole all my stuff!” Without laughter I wouldn't have made it through the day. I realized that all I could do was laugh. Not only does laughing at yourself protect you from getting hurt by others, it teaches you to see humor in every day life. And maybe, just maybe, you’ll be able to bring a little smile, a little joy, and maybe even a little laughter into other's lives as well as your own.

The definition of Rich comes from Urban Dictionary. Pretty sure it sums up the Rich kids very well! Cooper saw that I brought my camera to his house when I came over to babysit him and thought it would be a great idea to have a photo shoot. I wasn't going to tell the kid no! I love any opportunity to take his picture. His brothers came home from school just in time, too. . . They weren't as enthusiastic about having their picture taken as Cooper was. :)

The following images are from my Graphic Design class

This cute little guy was for my logo project. I designed this for a children's clothing store named Papoose. :) (You can see this logo hanging in BYU-Idaho's 3rd floor Spori Gallery Winter Semester, 2010.)

The above two images are work examples of Ludwig Hohlwein's art work. He is primarily know for his WWII posters.

The assignment for this poster was to mimic Ludwig's design style. Ludwig was forced to make posters for Hitler. Most of the posters Ludwig designed were of strong, loyal, blonde-headed, blue-eyed people that appeared happy and carefree. I thought today Ludwig might feel like he was blinding society with propaganda and lies so the swastika wrapped around this young woman's eyes symbolizes the blindness and deceit that happened to their society.

This poster was to advertise Ludwig Holwein's art exhibit being shown in the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. The poster needed to grab people's attention and at the same time, communicate to the viewers what his work was about and what his work represented. The images within the swastika are all posters that Ludwig did himself. The idea is that ALL of these propaganda posters played an important role in Hitler's reign. (You can see this poster hanging in BYU-Idaho's 3rd floor Spori Gallery, Winter Semester, 2010.)

Well, as many of you know, I had the opportunity to travel to Europe this Summer semester with BYU-Idaho. It was the best experience of my life. I made so many good friends, too. I visited many places in Europe. They were: London, Canterbury, Paris, Rome, Siena, Florence, Vienna, Salzburg, and Munich. I would go back in a split of a second! Here are just a few photos from the big trip.
